Driving in Norway can be a great way to explore the country, but it's important to be aware of the laws and regulations that are in place. Norway has a reputation for having strict traffic laws, and it's important for visitors to familiarize themselves with these laws to ensure a safe and pleasant driving experience. Here are some of the most important Norwegian driving laws to be aware of:

Speed Limits: Norway has strict speed limits that must be adhered to. The general speed limit on the roads is 50 km/h, while the speed limit on motorways is 80 km/h. In built-up areas, the speed limit is typically 50 km/h (31 mph). Speed cameras are commonly used in Norway, so it's important to stick to the speed limit to avoid fines.

Seat Belts: In Norway, it's mandatory for all passengers in the car to wear seat belts at all times. Children under 135 cm tall or up to 12 years old must use a child restraint system or booster seat, it's the responsibility of the driver to ensure that all passengers are properly buckled up.

Drinking and Driving: The legal blood alcohol limit in Norway is 0.02% which is extremely low, and it's strictly enforced. If you're caught driving with a blood alcohol level above this limit, you will face severe penalties, including fines, imprisonment, and even a ban on driving in Norway.

Winter Tires: In Norway, it's mandatory to have winter tires on your car between November 1st and April 1st, even if the road conditions are good. This is because of the harsh weather conditions that can occur during this time.

Headlights: It is mandatory to drive with headlights on at all times, even during the day. This is to improve visibility and safety on the roads.

Right of Way: Norway follows the European rule of "give way to the right" which means that at intersections, vehicles coming from the right have the right of way, unless otherwise indicated.

Tolls: Some roads and tunnels in Norway require payment of tolls, it is the driver's responsibility to have the proper payment method.

By following these driving laws and regulations, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable driving experience in Norway. Remember, if you're unsure about any of the laws or regulations, it's always best to err on the side of caution and seek clarification from a local authority.
